Blood Red Progress is out -- Dichotomy Engine

Without any special pre-announcement Dichotomy Engine is releasing "Blood Red Progress" album today! This album is newest solo LP release since "Mass Desolation" EP in 2011 and "Transcend" album in 2010. It has 11 tracks and one bonus track.  This album was made slowly without any deadlines and it release date was unknown just with that reason in mind. I have decided to put it out suddenly and without any previous announcement. Also this album got its story ... well it is better to figure it out yourself. There is a lot of drone, noise, shoegaze, ambient influences which are so obvious it is redundant to mention, so just listen.

Last gig at CK13 which I played as a support band to Death Rattle was simply awesome. First of all, I was honestly honored to play before UK Death Rattle and secondly this time I really tried to give my best performance yet. Somehow it all went great! A lot of fans were there, they loved my performance and my newly created projections which followed my playlist. Thank you all who liked my music and who supported my act. After DE finished Death Rattle came on the stage and they blew us all away with their excellent performance and great songs. Band which deserves a lot more attention. They gave us a bit more than hour of gig. Thanks guys! They were very nice people and it was a pleasure to meet them and spend time before the gig and after with them. We all had very enjoyable time. I hope we will share the stage again somewhere in near future. Again it was proven that this kind of music has a fanbase, and no matter how big or small it is, it "pays off" to push forward and play gigs no matter what.

Gig at Pelican Int Social Exchange was great experience. I have performed here for the first time. It is not unusual because this is fairly new club. Anyway Alen Ilijic started the gig first gave us an awesome performance! I really loved it and was very excited to see what he does with the guitar and amp. Truly an avant garde performance full of energy, and the sound which moved everybody who was there. It was really hard for me to take the stage after Alen. But after a few minutes it was great and I loved it. Crowd was small but great. Thank you all! I'd love to come there again. Here are some photos for you to see how it was.

Upcoming gig will happen at Pelican International Social Exchange in Novi Sad - 15 october 2014.  This club is fairly new but it will be an awesome place to host a gig like this. It will be great to share the stage with Alen Ilijic. Based on avant-garde intentions, experimental music by Alen Ilijić is created under his own rules negating the need for any compromise. In Ilijić’s performances body motion has a major role as an inclusion in performing arts. Guided by intuition, his performances ended up with a broken piano and injured, bloody hands. See you there!

As you may already know, I am a freak geek when it comes to guitar pedals. This last part is all about pedals, effects and similar stuff. Long ago, when I have started to play guitar I got no idea what the effects pedals and processors really are. But when I gathered my first band I easily noticed that you need a pedal to get some kind of aggressive sound that you couldn't get from the amp. All the amps I had were cheap ones. Also it was good to have one if you go somewhere else to play on someone's amp. After some time I gathered some money to buy my first overdrive pedal by Maxtone. It was doing good job and now I regret selling it. I did this because my current amp had great sound with DIST switch and I needed money for something else. Then after a year I made my first DIY pedal called Obsidian distortion. This pedal is still here, and it melts faces with such aggressive sound. My next effect was Digitech RP150 processor. Back then it was a state of the art budget processor. I still own it and it is awesome even now. I use it now and then but it can get you some really sweet sounds and it is so compact and sturdy. This RP150 served me well for a couple of years and then I decided to save my money for pedals which will be on my future pedalboard. Since then I am buying and selling them keeping ones I like and as you can see majority of them are cheap ones. I love pedals but always tend to check out some cheap ones on the internet so then I can buy and try what kind of sounds make those budget ones. Combinations of the pedals on my handmade pedalboard (click here to see the pedalboard) are always changing so be sure this photo is not definitive order on my pedalboard. It wouldnt be excited if it always stayed the same. Yes the pedalboard is handmade and it cost me about 7euros and it can carry all of pedals that I need for my gigs. I also have a smaller pedalboard, which I found last month. Power for my pedals is handmade by one guy who makes this stuff and he also made my Russian Big Muff clone which is awesome. Power adapter works great and I am really satisfied with it. As you can see I can power 11 pedals with it easily. If you are interested how some of these pedals work just ask me in the comments and I will tell you my experiences. Latest pedal here is Behringer Vintage Distortion and this one really grows on me because it has that dirty old sound and also it has a mod which works great if you are a noise lover like me because this noise changes as you play but still has this "lovely" buzzing white noise or whatever.

My current pedals are:

- SoundKing Volume
- Rocktron Classic Wah
- Behringer Rotary Machine
- Nobels ODR1 Natural overdrive
- DOD Classic Fuzz FX52
- Behringer Overdrive / Distortion OD100
- Maxtone Metal Rocker
- Russian Big Muff Clone
- Behringer Vintage Distortion VD1 - with Noise mod
- Behringer Compression Limiter CL9
- Danelectro Hash Browns Flanger
- Behringer Ultra Chorus UC200 x2
- Behringer Digital Delay DD100
- Behringer Digital Delay DD400
- Digitech JamMan Solo
- Fame Akai Analog Delay AD-10

Other stuff (not pedals):

- Digitech RP100
- Digitech RP150
- Phonic MU 802 mixer

noise making post-rock drone gear by Dichotomy Engine

Hello to anyone who is reading this third part of my blog about gear I use for Dichotomy Engine music making. This third part will consist of one guitar and one amp. Last guitar in this blog is actually my first "good" guitar. Long ago when I was younger and started to play guitar my first electric guitar was Jolana Galaxis. This Czech made guitar was my first electric and back then I was learning to play electric. It was my for a year or two and after some time I just wanted to have something better. Jolana was great begginers guitar but everything was bad, action, pickups neck... Back then I wanted and Ibanez and somehow I have sold Jolana and got some money from my mom and bought this Ibanez RX40. This Ibanez RX40 (more about it on the link) was and is still great guitar although it is cheap one. Guy sold it because he played it so little and it was made in 1996. Guitar was much better crafted because of the year it was made. I disliked the color but anyway it was unique. After some time I put Dimarzio Steves Special into it which made it real metal guitar. And this Ibanez went through a lot of gigs, with my bands and with Dichotomy Engine. Somehow this one is my signature guitar and everyone remembers this guitar. I love it, because it plays great, its awesome and I will never let it go. Also it was nicknamed "Murder" just because at the time playing arpeggios on it was like murder to my fingers.

My newest amp is Roland Cube 40 as you can see on the link. A long time passed by since I have got my own amp, and the last one was Laney. This Roland is 40 watt solid state amp. It is from the 80s and its now considered a vintage amp. I love this orange color because it looks like an Orange amp but sounds awesome. It has so nice cleans, and also can push all the effects through it and sounds great still. It is very versatile and can be used for jazz, blues, rock and etc... I think this one will stay with me a long time. If I dont fuck it up somehow...

I will save the last part for my pedalboard and effects pedals.... See you till the part 4!

It is time for me to continue story about my gear. Continuing where I have stopped last time. Third guitar that was seldom used for Dichotomy Engine is Australian made Les Paul-ish guitar called Comet made by Inferno Guitars. Story about this guitar is really interesting. Some years ago I stumbled upon Inferno guitars on the internet and I was interested to do a custom guitar for me. After some time I found a way how to do it. Because my main profession is web developing and design, I helped them at Inferno guitar to make a new website and after doing that they have sent me this beautiful Comet and acoustic Songbird guitar. Inferno Comet has that unique Les Paul sound, mahogany body and sounds killer live. But this is guitar which is rarely used for DE. Just in special occasions.

Next is Squier Bullet Strat which I acquired a few months ago and it slowly becomes one of my favorite guitars. This Squier is 2009 Chinese Strat, and I know this is the cheapest strat you can get but anyway this piece is so nice. I was looking for sunburst body and that was the most important thing above all. Also playability and other things came as plus. Genuinely it had humbucker at the bridge but I have changed it to single pickup. Also this single pickup is Dimarzio HS3 and it does nice job of humbucking while sound is unique for single pickup. It was already used for some new stuff and will be used for live gigs for sure. Cant be more satisfied with such cheap guitar which does great job on both fields.

That's all for this part... More to come in part 3 - Gear for Dichotomy Engine noise making....

noise making guitar gear / Dichotomy Engine

Well it was a long time I ranted about my gear, pedals, guitars and etc. As you may know I love guitar pedals yet I am not rich guy so every part of my gear is a cheap replica of famous and much expensive gear. But I don;t care much. Yes it would be great to have all the fancy pedals, amps and axes but hey all this gear I own does the fucking job very well too! Also I think that human technology has come to the point that all those replicas are 90% similar to the originals. Even if they are not similar this stuff give nice stamp on my music and creativity.

Here you can see my Parts Stratocaster . This guitar is entirely assembled by me, every part was bought separately and made into this strange looking sticker bombed freakish guitar (read more about sticker bombing this guitar here). It is my main guitar for live Dichotomy Engine gigs, it plays almost nicely and has a bit higher action but I love it because of the struggle while playing a gig. This gives an extra effort when I perform live. Also is pretty sturdy guitar, because it is getting beaten every time it goes on stage with me. But anyway this Frankenstrat has nice bite and cuts great thorugh the mix. All the effects sound awesome when I play it. It took time to assemble this fucker, and also i spent a lot of time to collect and put all those stickers on it. Now it looks unique and everyone wants to see this strange guitar.

Second guitar which is not so exposed is my Fender Telecaster 52 replica. This guitar is one of my dearest guitars because I got it in an exchange and then I have realized that this guitar is meant for me. Even though I was Telecaster hater when I was young his guitar found me at the right time. I used it a lot on my new recordings and I must say this one gives a hell of a sound. It can be thin or thick, bright or dark sounding. The only things to adjust are pickups and volume / tone pots. I must say this is not replica from some China manufacturer, this one is custom made with finest wood from Serbia, and this is why it can compete with all the American telecasters. A fine craft by Serbian luthier. Maybe this one go out in public on some future gigs. We will see. Until then this Tele stays in my room.

This is first part of my blog about gear I use for Dichotomy Engine... Stay tuned for next part and more stories about guitars and effects....

Dichotomy Engine on Toxic Cereals compilation cd

The concept of Toxic Cereals compilation is to be aware that our food is becoming more and more toxic and less natural for us to eat. Cereals was my main focus because now this food is so toxic, its almost entirely made of sugar. All the tracks on the compilation get well with one another and be sure you will enjoy while listening to this compilation. Dichotomy Engine is here with already old track Barren Fields taken from Mass Desolation EP which I think perfectly fits the theme. Thanks a lot to Daveak making this compilation possible!

Butterfly Tsunami song used in video project Ne racunajte na nas

I am very proud that song "Butterfly Tsunami" has found its place in the great work entitled "Do not count on us" (Ne racunajte na nas) which was made by group of students of the first generation of Basic studies Scenic architecture, art and design in Novi Sad. This project was designed for multimedia event "Borders" that talks about personal relationship to the physical, but also in other divisions in the area of contemporary existence, the role and responsibility of artists today.

Drone noise post rock gig video by Dichotomy Engine. It's been a long time since there were some live videos from DE performances. Thanks a lot to Gorgona, because she filmed this and also got some great photos. Another time CK13 was filming my gig and both times they fucked up or lost those recordings. I don't know how but they managed to do that twice. Nice job, ... not! Enjoy this noisy video.
